Compared to Jupiter’s moon Europa, our planet is practically a desert, as this NASA image shows. It’s a computer visualization showing Europa and a dried-out Earth, with the volume of all their water represented by blue spheres.
(Details at APOD: 2012 May 24 - All the Water on Europa)
Keep in mind that we’re significantly bigger, our planet is 70% water, we’ve never even seen the bottom of most of the ocean floor (only in the shallowest parts), and water was not only one of the most important building blocks of life but also what it takes to sustain life. Think about it. Think about what we don’t know.
